A drive shaft, driveshaft, driving shaft, tailshaft (Australian English), propeller shaft ( prop shaft ), or Cardan shaft (after Girolamo Cardano) is a mechanical component for transmitting torque and rotation, usually used to connect other components of a drive train that cannot be connected directly because of distance or the need to allow for relative movement between them.

The drive shaft (also called propeller shaft or prop shaft ) is a component of the drive train in a vehicle, with the purpose of delivering torque from the transmission to the differential, which then transmits this torque to the wheels in order to move the vehicle.

We assemble, wel and balance drivelines to strict SAE standards. We also manufacture and distribute Quality CNC components for standard applications as well as specialty items like flanges, yokes and adapter plates. These prop shafts are used in a wide variety of applications such as work boats, pleasure craft, naval vessels, and pumps. The Aqualoy process produces a rounder, straighter, stronger shaft.

Aqualoy stainless shafts are available in A1 A1 and A22. The cardan shaft connects the vehicle transmission with the differential.

Front-wheel drive vehicles do not require a drive shaft, but only two axles that deliver power from the gearbox to the wheels. Over Million Visitors.

If a second hose clamp is added and its screw assembly is 180° (or opposite) the first screw then the imbalance is cancelled. Changing the prop shaft seals will vary depending upon what brand of lower unit you have.

Some gear cases you will be able to change the prop shaft without taking out the bearing carrier. But then there are other gear cases that you will have to pull out the bearing carrier in order to change out the seals.

Loaded the TRE onto the trailer last night. All ready to go today. Notice while the TRE is on the trailer there is a bunch of grease up by the front diff. Are you kidding me?

Boot on the front CV joint blown out. Born Again Boating Clothing! About the prop shaft, there is suppose to be some play fore and aft.

Yes, the front drive shafts are meant to be pulled out of the diff. Should be a circ clip on the ends to hold them in. Side panels have recesses that stopped the prop shaft going down the tunnel.

So, there was nothing for it but to use some persuasion. I mounted the prop shaft as far down the tunnel as it would go, then a few hefty clouts with a rubber mallet and the prop shaft moved past blockage and was then easily fed into the rear of the gearbox.

The Rear prop shaft should do fine. A CV Joint to the carrier bearing. The Mid prop shaft, just one U-Joint to another carrier bearing. Boring the hole for the prop shaft is psychologically one of the most difficult tasks in building the boat.

Getting it right is important and it is difficult to judge if you are doing it accurately until it is all done. So here are some details on how to do this based on my boat.
